Dickens Lodge

  7 Applethwaite, Limefitt Park LA23 1PA

Dickens Lodge is located on Limefitt Park in the heart of the beautiful Cumbrian lake District but just 20 minutes from the Junction 36 of the M6 motorway. It is on the road leading to one of the lake districts most beautiful mountain passes, the Kirkstone Pass. Which links Windermere to Ullswater.

It is a lovely wooden 3 bedroom/ two bathroom pine clad log cabin. The lodge will sleep 6 adults in comfort and many of our guests bring the grand parents – great for baby sitting. The lodge is warmed by full gas central heating and is well insulated so very comfortable even in the depths of winter. We happily accept well behaved pets, after all, we are in prime “dog-walking country”

The living area has a three piece suite with comfortable seating  for six people. There is a television with dvd and video player and a large selection of dvds and videos and also a cd player, with a wide selection of compact discs.

We also have a book case with a good mix of books from local interest books, walk books, fiction and childrens books. The lodge is very family friendly and if needed a travel cot and high chair can be hired for a small charge. There are a mix games for both young children and adults, we are still collecting games so if there is a particular favourite you would like us to look out for, please email us on  julie.dickens@hotmail.com and we will keep a look out for it!

The dining area again, seats six with ease and overlooks the grassy bank behind the lodge. This is where the badger families come to eat at dusk or shortly after nightfall.

The kitchen contains a full size fridge freezer, full size oven, microwave, dishwasher, tumble dryer as well as the smaller items we take for granted such as electric whisk, electric carving knife, slow cooker, george forman style grill, coffee machine, toaster, toasted sandwich maker and kettle.

The master bedroom has a double bed, en-suite shower and toilet, fitted wardrobes and tv/dvd system. There are two further twin bedrooms each with single beds, fitted wardrobes and one of the bedrooms also has a tv/dvd system. There is a family bathroom with a full sized bath, great for children or for a relaxing soak after a day out enjoying the local scenery.

A  feature of the outside decking is the screened spa which can accommodate three adults and is the perfect way to relax after a hard days hiking in the fells.

The decking area also has a full sized dining table and chairs, perfect for alfresco meals or simply relaxing watching the sun sink behind Wansfell, and waiting for the nocturnal wildlife to visit.

We are very much a dog friendly lodge, the site does however, ask that owners keep dogs on leads on all areas other than the dog excercise field. This is a large field beyond the well maintained childrens adventure playground, it is a good place to see troutbeck tongue and the surrounding hills of Frostwick, Ill Bell, and High Street.

The lodge is ready for you to start your holiday from 16.00 hours (4pm). The beds will be made up and all you have to do is move your food, drink and cases in! We provide two medium towels per person but would suggest if you plan on using the spa, it would make sense,( and protect your modesty) to pack a larger bath sheet or beach towel!

To avoid contaminating the spa we recommend showering before using it, much the same advice as one would see in any health club spa. We also ask not to add any potions other than those sold specifically for spas.

At the end of your stay, please put the “slow-release” chlorine dispenser back into the spa. This helps keep the spa clean and safe for the next folk.

There are lots of options in Kendal for food shopping including Marks and Spencers, Booths, Asda, Morrisons and Aldi.

In order to assist our housekeeping team, we respectfully request that at the end of your stay, you empty the bins, recycle all that can be recycled, and strip the beds that are used. Beds that are not used may be indicated by placecards stating as such. These are kept on the mantle piece. This helps keep our “carbon footprint” down. also we request that pots and cutlery are cleaned and dried and returned to their relevant drawer/cupboard.

At the end of your holiday we would ask that all rubbish bins are emptied and “recycling” recycled please. The recycling bins are kept in the gated area next to the HayBarn. The site actively encourages the recycling of cardboard, glass bottles and newspaper. If you have any questions regarding this, the staff in the office at the front of the park will be happy to advise you.

In order to have the lodge ready for the next guests, we  request that guests leave by 10 am (this is  in line with other holiday homes on the site) and leave the lodge clean and tidy as they would wish to find it.

We hope you enjoy our holiday home as much as we do. Any suggestions for improvements please email us, or if anything is missing or damaged again please email us.
